In his opening speech, the Mayor of Nkambe council, Ngabir Paul Bantar said, the 2017 was characterized by a gloomy socio-politico economic climate that gripped the Anglophones Region. He continues that, fear, and intimidation held people hostage and consequently, the council recruited additional security to take care of the council institutions. He said by this reaction to the crisis, they have showed that they are peace-loving people. “We choose progress over stagnation and stability over chaos”. “We do not believe in the use of force to achieve our goals”. Mayor stated. He also indicated that, 2017 was the most difficult year since we started our Mandate, considering that local revenue dropped to an all time low, state revenue also drastically dropped and came after long delays and most of the partnerships could not be carried out because of the security situation in the region.
Other challenges the mayor mentioned includes, the untimely submission of mandatory documents in the format prescribed from finance to the administration. The consequences of the Anglophone crisis, the ghost towns and school boycotts were very devastating. Students unregistered for exams, missed exams, innocent children are victims and business community is also victims. The Mayor decries the wanton killing of civilians and the men in Uniform.
The challenges include many dept the council owns, with Nkambe town credit union and CNPS.
