In continuation
of their efforts to zero teenage pregnancies and school drop out, Youth
Assembly for Justice (YAFEJ) and the Youth Association for Civic Education and
National Integration continue their partnership for the eradication of teens
Pregnancies in Donga Mantung. After the capacity workshop seminars Ndu SubDivision Last February, the National President of Civic Education and National
Integration (YACENI), Marcel Abanda and team, comprising the Divisional
Director of the Multipurpose Youth Empowerment Center Utia Andrew, and the
Divisional Chief at the Delegation of youth Affairs and civic education in
charge of Civic education and National integration, this weekend drilled peer
educators, Young girls and teenage mothers in Nkambe Sub selected from Binju,
Nkambe, Kungi, Binshua, Moh, Njima and around the Division at the Nkambe
community hall on the “FIGHT AGAINST TEENAGE PREGNANCY & VIOLENCE AGAINST
THE GIRL CHILD”.
The personnel of
the Delegation of Youth affairs Donga Mantung also presented some of the
opportunities youths and teen’s mom can benefit from in that Ministry of youth
affairs and civic education.
The Selected
Peer educators after identifying their needs were empowered with sufficient information
on some strategies and tips for helping high school-aged daughters prevent pregnancy,
family and Social Risk Factors, Myths and facts with ample statistics about teen
pregnancies with the Key preventive message of “no method is 100% effective at
preventing pregnancy other than abstinence”
During the focus
round table discussion, the peers were taught on the various tactics used by
men, to win girls. Equally teenage mothers shared their stories with the
teenagers which some were so inspiring, teaching and torching.

confirmed that, teenage parents bear few of the costs of a teen pregnancy and 4/5 of
them do not marry the mother of their child, they attain lower educational
levels and experience earnings

Equally, YACENI
President stated that, teen fathers are much more likely to finish school than
teen mothers, although the goal is to keep both mother and father in school
until graduation day. “When this problem is ignored, we have another entire
generation with even more severe problems, so keeping teen parents in school is
a very worthy goal”. He concluded that condoms are the only form of male birth
control currently available. He also called on the Government to put up strategies
and measures; support the reproductive health campaigned in other to reduce
teen pregnancies and school drop.
